Klobasnek (Sausage Kolaches)

I was inspired by a recent NPR story about kolaches, the Czech pastry that is a staple in Texas. Although traditional kolaches are fruit-filled, I was most interested in trying the savory version mentioned in the story—apparently a Texas twist on the classic—with sausage, cheese and jalape├▒os. The┬ákolaches were great straight from the oven—the golden pastry crust lightly brushed with melted butter. Reheated the next day as leftovers, though, they lost all novelty for me, and simply became pigs in a blanket.
